Dangerous Profession

The fashion world was shocked when 21-year-old Brazilian model Ana Carolina Reston died in 2006 of complications from anorexia nervosa. Told during a 2004 casting call that she was “too fat,” Reston began restricting her diet to only apples and tomatoes, culminating in a generalized infection and eventually death. The 5980 model weighed 88 pounds at the time of her death.
